Paris, New York, and Rio have all had one - now Skem is getting one too. An independent film-maker is putting together a love letter to the West Lancashire town along the lines of the popular Cities of Love series of films set in famous cities around the world. Skelmersdale-born Ian Gamester is still at the financing stage for the 10 "love stories" he intends to feature in his Skem, I Love You project.

It has a lot to be proud about, and it took me leaving Skem to look at it with fresh eyes. The environment is incredible, with a beautiful river running through it. It's a cinematic place. He added: "I really need the help of local businesses to get behind us and support us with this project. Among those being featured in the film is the Junk Food Cafe, which takes food donations and feeds the community at a pop up cafe, where people pay what they feel and take home a bag of shopping.

Also included is Skem Men Aces, a football team made up of people with learning or physical disabilities. The film follows them as they prepare for a one-off fundraising charity game against the Skem Police, but events take an unexpected turn. Divine Days, meanwhile, is a group made up of dancers with learning and physical disabilities, which the film follows as they plan a secret performance.

Skem, I Love You is being touted as the world's first social enterprise feature film, meaning that any profits will be re-invested to support Skelmersdale residents to fund creative projects. Ian said: "It's a real honour to be working with such inspiring groups, with people devoted to making a real difference in the community. I'm humbled each day we film. It's a collaboration, we're all feeding into a project that is gaining momentum and sending positive vibrations throughout the Skem community.
